Medicare

Medicare is health insurance for people 65 or older. You may be eligible to get Medicare earlier if you have been declared disabled by the Social Security Administration.

Some people get Medicare automatically; others have to actively sign up.  If you are already receiving Social Security payments when you turn 65 then you should receive your Medicare card automatically.  Not receiving Social Security income?  You can go to the Social Security website (ssa.gov) to sign up for Medicare.  It is a good idea to start a Medicare application about 2 to 3 months prior to your birth month.
